Epic Video Of All Of M&T Bank Stadium Chanting "HEY, YOU SUCK!" At The Steelers Is Why This Rivalry Is The Best
HEY! YOU SUCK!
What an epic song to cap off an epic night. For those who don't know, this is an old (mostly extinct) Terps basketball tradition from back in their glory days in the ACC. Band would play it and Cole Field House would go NUTS. Absolutely brilliant play by the Ravens gameday team to throw this song on and let the fans take it from there. They didn't miss a beat.
Imagine being a Steeler or Steelers fan in the Bank in that moment. A few weeks ago you were riding high living life under the delusion that your football team might actually go places in the postseason. The fraudulence was exposed little by little in the weeks after, including a clapping in this very same building just 3 weeks prior. And now it's postseason time and the chickens have come home to roost. The Ravens shoved it down your throat in such a disrespectful and abusive manner for 58 minutes and all your fears have been realized. It was evident after one drive. It was evident after one quarter. It was evident at halftime. And every step along the way, you knew deep down that your team just simply didn't have it, and now you just gotta sit in it and take the beating. You pray for the clock to hit zero just so you can get out of that penitentiary and for godssake just make it stop. And you're soooo close to the finish line... and then 70,000 deep just tell you EXACTLY what millions watching at home know too. You, and I cannot emphasize this enough, suck.
I fucking love this rivalry. The pendulums swings and the Steelers have certainly beaten us in their fair share. But I'm not sure there's been a throttling like that one on a stage like this. The Polamalu pick 6 is as close as it gets and it certainly was soul-crushing for us to be one drive away from a rookie Flacco going to the Super Bowl, but that's kinda the point. Hope was snatched for us that night... but there was no hope for Pittsburgh Saturday night. Absolute squashing. And while the Ravens absolutely have bigger aspirations than what they accomplished Saturday night, if they're able to get it done this moment will be a really nice piece of the journey.
