Brewers Fans Have Turned Bob Uecker's Statue Outside The Ballpark Into A Makeshift Memorial, Surrounding It With Flowers And Beer
Baseball lost yet another legend yesterday in Bob Uecker, take 10 minutes to scroll through Hubb's blog where he highlighted some awesome Uecker stories and videos, it's great. MLB network has been non-stop Uecker videos and calls since his death was announced, it's been great programing and I highly suggest you go watch that once you're done here. Mr. Baseball was the perfect nickname for him simply because of how universally loved he was, every corner of the internet is filled with tributes, stories, videos and messages about Uecker and somehow they all keep getting better. Brewers' fans needed to mourn and immediately started heading to the American Family Field to pay their respects at his statue outside the ballpark, from there it turned into a beautiful memorial, a very fitting tribute to this legend.
In honor of Uecker's legendary commercial, a fan placed a single Miller Lite can at the base of the statue and it just grew from there. Eventually the entire space in front of the statue was covered in Brewers gear, flowers, signs, jerseys, letters, balloons, bobbleheads and beer.
What an awesome tribute by the fans who were so lucky that they got Mr. Baseball in their lives, there really is a special relationship a die-hard baseball fan has with his hometown announcer. You listen and watch them so much they really do seem like friends or family, but in Milwaukee it seemed like Uecker was everyone's extra grandfather. I love the letter wrapped around the beer can up there, the beer bat of course was a nice touch. I even read that some fans were gathering at the statue and having a beer, now that's an awesome spot to have a cold one. Directly in the shadows of a baseball legend. Just an awesome scene at his statue and a really touching tribute, you can see by how much stuff is there how much he actually meant to this community. The 2025 season will be a weird one for Brewers fans, their first one without the most constant thing most of them have ever had in their life. Baseball won't sound the same without Mr. Uecker, RIP.
PS. I hope that fans keep showing up to have a drink outside the statue, make that a thing for Ueck.
