Jalen Hurts Immediately Going After A 330lb Lineman To Have Saquon Barkley's Back Was The Best Play Any Quarterback Made In The Wild Card Round
One argument the Jalen Hurts haters (of which there are many) can't stand to hear is that Jalen Hurts is just a winner. Everywhere he goes, this man finds a way to win. They'll point to the rosters he's played with and say he's just been put in a better position. They'll point to the Philadelphia Eagles having a generational offensive line and giving him all the time in the world.
But do you want to know why Jalen Hurts is a winner?
It's because of reasons exactly like immediately rushing over to Saquon Barkley's defense and getting right in front of 6'4" 331lb Tedarrell Slaton after that bullshit finish after the whistle.
He's not waiting around for the rest of his big fellas to come to the rescue. He's going to step right in there and let Slaton know about it right away. That's how winning is done. First game back after a concussion and he's getting right in there to take care of business himself.
He may not have had the crazy yard numbers yesterday. He may not have connected on every pass (although it seemed like Jordan Love was having a great time connecting with Eagles on most of his passes). He may not have broken off for a big run that completely opened up the game. But there's no stat designated for leadership. There's no way to quantify how much a guy inspires everybody else around them to put the team over everything. If the nerds like Dan Orlovsky had a way to actually assess and breakdown that part of a quarterback's game, then Jalen Hurts would be the best on the planet.
Now I don't think that Saquon Barkley necessarily needs anyone to show him how to be a great teammate. He already has that in himself. But when these are the two guys driving the culture in that locker room?
This team rules. I don't even want to bring up his name right now, but it's crazy how one quarterback had this locker room completely fractured just a few short years ago. And now this is is the team we are blessed with. Guys giving up a chance at 70 free yards just because they know it's the right thing to do.
Onto the next one.
