PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE: Jerry Jones And Mike McCarthy Are Meeting Today To Discuss A Contract Extension
After several days of discussions about the 2024 season and the future, #Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and coach Mike McCarthy remain open to moving forward together and the sides are expected to open talks today on a new contract to keep him in Dallas, per sources.
There have been no negotiations yet and still are other issues to work through. McCarthy’s contract is set to expire Tuesday, giving Dallas a few more days to work out a deal. Otherwise, McCarthy would be free to pursue other opportunities
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE. Ohhhhhh please, please, please. And one more time...PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE. I wrote about this before- I want Jerry Jones to live forever. He already said he's going to be the GM until he dies, which means he will be picking non-threatening, just happy to be there head coaches like Mike McCarthy until he dies. It's amazing. I would love to be a fly on the wall during their talks, with McCarthy just salivating at the numbers on the contract simply to be a yes-man to Jerry. At this point, can ya blame him? He won his Super Bowl, and now he gets paid millions a year to cash checks as a head coach who already hit his ceiling. It's almost like he gets paid *not* to go to the Super Bowl, because with Jerry as the GM it's virtually impossible. So he can either re-invent himself as coordinator somewhere else, or he can play nice with 90 year old Jerry Jones, tell him how great he is, and coach the Cowboys to mediocrity for year to come.
There is no guarantee the Mike will be offered or sign an extension. But we all know it doesn't really matter, because if it's not him, it's someone similar. Jerry won't hire a coach who wants any sort of control. If Jerry wants to trade a draft pick for a bad WR, that's what he's gonna do, and the coach will just have to live with it. So while I'm rooting for Mike to get an extension because that's funnier, I don't think it matters at all if it's him or someone else. As long as Jerry is in charge, the Cowboys are gonna suck, and nothing is better than that. Never die, Jerry. Never die!
