Get The Cardboard Cutouts Ready: VCU/Fordham Is Being Played Tonight Without Any Fans Because VCU's Arena Doesn't Have Running Water
You know what? This had to happen in the A-10, it's the only conference where this would happen and everyone just moves along like it's normal. That, or, make the same Jon Rothstein joke about 'The Siegel Center is more life altering than a 10-day trip to Europe.' But the no fans thing? Yeah, everyone had some bad memories here:
I can't say I had any idea that Richmond was having these sort of water problems. This is reportedly what's going on:
[Source] - According to officials with the city's Department of Public Utilities, a winter storm knocked out the plant's power around 7:30 a.m. Monday. The backup generators turned on, but officials said a separate battery back-up and redundant system both failed.
That caused critical damage to the IT system, which is the brains of the whole operation. It also led to filter gallery valves getting stuck, allowing water to flood into the basement where equipment is located.
Yeah, not great, obviously. But how the hell are the players and coaching staffs gonna operate without running water? Enjoy that ride back to Fordham, Fran Brown style:
Not to mention, this game matters! VCU can't lose this game. They are a bubble team. You lose to Fordham and your resume takes a massive hit. Fordham, well, Fordham is awful. The A-10 can't let these teams lose to bad teams. VCU, Dayton, St. Bonaventure and even George Mason. You want to be a multiple bid league, those teams can't lose to the Fordham's of the A-10. That said, Spider brings up a good point here and tough to argue with:
Good luck with the toilets and showers and everything else. No idea why they didn't postpone the game, but here we are, a game with no fans.
