Ben Johnson to the Jags?!?!? NFL Head Coaching Hire Predictions
With the season coming to an end Sunday, there are several NFL teams scrambling for new head coaches. Detroit Lions OC Ben Johnson to & former Titans HC Mike Vrabel are at the top of every teams wish list. Who will land them?
Let's take some educated guesses at the upcoming coaching hires…..
New England Patriots
Mike Vrabel
This one just makes way too much sense and feels obvious. Vrabel had a stellar career as a multi Super Bowl winning LB for the Pats and knows owner Robert Kraft well. He gets the culture and the organization. Add on a potential franchise QB in Drake Maye and this job becomes pretty attractive.
Vrabel's Titans days have aged quite well. Hell he almost made the Super Bowl with Ryan Tannehill. And it is unlikely the Pats would move on from Jerod Mayo if they did not feel like they were going to get their guy.
New York Jets
The hell if I know.
This is the hardest one to predict because it is a stage 5 disaster situation. Aaron Rodgers will not be back in 2025. There's no QB or GM in place after Joe Douglas was fired. Until the Jets figure out their new GM, it is awfully difficult to pick a head coach as the hope would be the new GM will make the decision. Today they interviewed Rex Ryan so your guess is as good as mine.
It is hard to imagine a top level candidate being attracted to this job considering the mess he will inherit.
Jacksonville Jaguars
Ben Johnson
This is a little bit of a wild call but this is a MUCH more attractive job than people think. Owner Shahid Khan has heaps of $$$$ and will not be afraid to pony up big to get his guy. The big question is how much faith does the new head coach have in franchise QB Trevor Lawrence?
The Jags won the AFC South two years ago and have an incredible young weapon at WR in Brian Thomas. Not to mention they play in one of the weakest divisions in football in the AFC South and a new stadium deal is on the horizon.
Johnson has been extremely patient waiting on the right job and this looks like the best fit if he believes in Lawrence.
Chicago Bears
Brian Flores
The Bears seem to be all in on Vrabel & Johnson but I think will be unable to land either of them. They should hire the Vikings DC & former Dolphins head coach after striking out with their top choices.
Flores is a damn good defensive co-ordinator and has earned a second shot after helping the Vikings win 14 games. His exotic pass rush packages are a nightmare for QBs and he will demand accountability & professionalism in Chicago.
New Orleans Saints
Aaron Glenn
Glenn finished runner up to Dennis Allen in 2022 for the job and has deep ties to the Saints organization after being the secondary coach from 2016-2020 for Sean Payton. President Mickey Loomis seems to love him and tends to keep moves in house with people he knows.
Glenn's stock is on the rise again after his defense dismantled the Vikings on Sunday night. The Lions were stout on defense until 7 starters got hurt. He is well respected as a culture guy but will have to nail his offensive co-ordinator hire.
