The Lowlight Of The NFL Season Wasn't All The Garbage Teams, Refs Or Anything Else - People Truly Think It Was The Chiefs Resting Their Starters
You know what? This is such an asinine take that Don Van Natta feels so strong about I'm almost forced to respect it. I mean we've had countless shitty ref moments, we have so many bad teams, quarterback play was atrocious for about half the league, but the Chiefs resting their starters - something that has been done for years - is the lowlight. Self-sabotage even! Just to clarify this all happened this week too:
- Rams sat their players (had seeding to play for)
- Bills sat their players (didn't have anything to play for/ruined the Pats No. 1 pick)
- Eagles sat their players (nothing to play for, tried to ruin the Giants)
- Texans sat their players (nothing to play for, could have ruined the Titans, except they are still the Titans)
- Chiefs sat their players (nothing to play for)
But, yes, self-sabotage. Somehow we got this whole thing where people are screaming that the Bengals should have been in the playoffs. Again, it's simple. Beat the Patriots. That's all they had to do. They also didn't have to blow leads against the Ravens, have a coach understand game management, don't start 0-3. Any of those things would get you in the playoffs. It has nothing to do with the Chiefs sitting their players, but somehow the Chiefs doing anything has broken people's brains into thinking it's the worst thing we've ever seen in the sport.
Also, can we stop with the whole the Chiefs are scared of the Bengals theory that I've constantly seen. The Chiefs have won the last 3 against the Bengals. Not to mention, the Bengals would have to beat the Bills in order to play the Chiefs. It wasn't like the Chiefs picked their opponent in the Divisional. Call me crazy, but I will never feel bad for a team who needed help to make the playoffs. Just win. It's that simple. Win and you don't need help.
PS: Boom, roasted.
