The Mets Hit Half A Mile Worth Of Home Runs Last Night
Wright, Lagares, Flores x2, Cuddyer, d’Arnaud, Murphy, and Cespedes. All go yard. Average distance of 400 feet. Completely mind boggling that this is the same team we were watching flounder around for 4 months to start the season. Just one month ago all the talk was about how this team was one of the 3 worst offensive teams in the history of baseball. They were worse than the 1962 expansion Mets.
Fast forward a little over 30 days, add a Coke Can, sprinkle in some tears, trade for Yoenis, bring back a Captain, and bingo bango bongo that same exact team is now setting offensive records. The turnaround has been absolutely bananas. Like if you would have told me in April May June or the beginning of July that the 2015 Mets would set any sort of offensive record for the the franchise this season I would have looked you dead in the eyes and said you were the dumbest person on the planet earth. I would have bet literally infinity dollars that the Mets wouldnt score 49 runs in 4 games. Would have put my very mediocre life on the line without any hesitation that the Mets wouldnt hit 8 home runs in a single game.
So the roller coaster continues. I’m trying to think of any team in recent memory that has had such extreme ups and downs as the Mets. In the span of a matter of months they’ve gone from one of the worst teams in the history of the game to a top 5 offense in the league. They’ve gone from a laughing stock to a formidable slugging team. The bullpen has gone the other direction, from completely lock down to completely terrifying. As fans we celebrated trades that became non trades. Call ups and injuries keeping us on our toes. I cant remember any team – really, in any sport – that has had such dramatic ups and downs. Its honestly hard to believe its the same season.
I think this is it for the roller coaster. I’m not telling you they rattle off a month+ winning streak here but I dont think we’re in store for any more dramatic valleys as far as this season goes. The roster expands – hopefully helping some of the bullpen woes. The offense has sustained enough production long enough to show they arent a fluke. And most importantly the schedule is just CAKE. Delicious, scrumptious cake. So for like the 5th time this year I am telling myself to just enjoy this team. Its ingrained in my to doubt them. Its in my nature to expect the worst. But finally…FINALLY…I am buying into this team whole heartedly.
