McDonald's Announces The McRib Will Return On December 3rd

This is a blog about the McRib returning on December 3rd.

It's really big news because just about 2 years ago, people were giving it a farewell tour

Klemmer explained in a meaty editorial that the price of pork makes it hard to offer this sandwich year round. It's just not possible because pork is volatile and thus hard to predict:

And now a couple years later, we're back with a McRib and many people are crediting Donald Trump for that. I don't know how much of that is true but I imagine he enjoys a McRib like many of us. Politics aside it's a very fine sandwich.

Only thing I'm curious about is if it's slightly overrated. That's where I get a little nervous when celebrating the McRib. I think availability is your best ability and the McRib never plays a full 162. He's like a reliever with an explosive fastball and even more flammable elbow. You get him a couple big appearances a year but most of the time, he's on the IL.

I often think the same thing about Mark Prior's career with the Cubs. It was electric no doubt, but are we overrating his greatness in retrospect just because he was never available? I think there's some kind of mental paradox involved when reflecting on young and injured players that's similar to the McRib. I'm inclined to assume you would be great indefinitely without the league adjusting to your stuff. But am I wrong to assume that so effortlessly?

In the case of Mark Prior, I can guarantee you guys he would have made the HOF without repeated injuries.

In the case of McRib, I think there's a little bit of Stockholm Syndrome at play. The chemicals from the french fries have essentially rendered us zombies devoid of critical thought. Most of us are just happy to see the sandwich back so we can get our fix.

Although the Christmas song is a nice touch:

So is the half-gallon jug of McRib sauce, which makes me wonder.

McRib sauce isn't BBQ sauce? I had always assumed they were the same but then again, BBQ sauce doesn't retail for $20 a jug. McRib sauce does. Ipso facto: we're calling it McRib Sauce.

All of this to say, if we're bringing back the McRib for a limited run, I want to see a breaded chicken snack wrap follow closely. That's not a demand or a threat but really more just an honest ask from a dedicated fan. I don't think the suits really understand how the snack wrap rounds out a flavor/texture profile driven by two McDoubles. Having two snack wraps to bookend your meal was a privilege many of us did not take for granted. And the absence of that privilege has really taken a toll on my emotional state so please consider returning your #1 breaded chicken product ALL TIME
