Switzerland Is Using AI Jesus At Confession, Which Can't Be A Good Thing

AI JESUS TAKES CONFESSIONS IN SWISS CHURCH

St. Peter’s Church in Lucerne introduced an AI-powered Jesus hologram for confessions. Developed by theologians and computer scientists, the AI is trained on the New Testament and responds to questions in 100 languages. Two-thirds of visitors reported a spiritual experience, though others found the advice generic. The project aims to spark discussion on AI in religion, with the potential for AI to support pastoral care. Some critics call it a gimmick, raising ethical concerns about AI’s role in faith. As a catholic kid this is a wild story. Let's first set the stage of confessions. Confessions in the catholic church allow you to wipe away your sins on a weekly basis simply by saying "Bless me father for I have sinned." It's pretty chaotic when you think about it. They trade you three hail mary's for cursing like an animal or throwing rocks off the overpass of a highway (my friends did that one not me) and you got a clean slate. Just one of the many things that's bizarre in the Catholic church.

Now they add an element of instead of talking to a priest to confess your sins, you are telling Jesus himself (well AI Jesus but you get the point). Shouldn't this change how people then confess or confess at all? I don't know about you but this would for sure change my approach in the confessional, especially as a kid. Can you imagine admitting to yanking it as an 11 year old to Jesus himself. No way. I'm sure some people are gassed up to be speaking to an AI Jesus, but I feel like this has more downside than upside as people don't want the son of the lord to know all their dirty laundry.
