I'm So Ready For The Miami Dolphins To Break My Heart Again

The Dolphins are officially back. I called it—I told everyone this would be the game where they’d blow the roof off the place and give every Dolphins fan their annual dose of hope. Watching the Dolphins crush the Raiders was glorious. For the first time in a long time, I was genuinely proud to be a fan of this team.

After watching yesterday’s game, one thing became very clear to me: if Tua could somehow manage to stay healthy, he’d be a top-six quarterback in the NFL. In fact, I’ll take it a step further—Tua might be the most valuable player in the NFL. I’m not calling him the MVP, and I’m not saying he’s the league's best player. I’m simply saying that his value to the Miami Dolphins is greater than any other quarterback’s value to their respective team. The Dolphins without Tua look like the Chicago office playing basketball on Fridays—let’s call it “slow.” But with Tua? They look like legitimate contenders in the AFC. Don’t believe me? Just listen to the players.

A few weeks ago, I thanked the Buffalo Bills for ending our season. At the time, I really thought that was it. But as usual, I was wrong. The Dolphins never let us fans off easy. Even in 2021, when we started the season 1-7, they won six straight to get back to .500, only to lose the game that could’ve clinched a playoff spot by a score of 34-3. This year feels no different. The once 2-6 Miami Dolphins are now 4-6, with a home game against the Patriots up next, followed by a Thanksgiving showdown in Lambeau Field. They could very well be 5-6 going into that game, and if they beat the Packers on Thanksgiving, this team will not only be back in the playoff hunt, but the fan base will overdose on hope—again.

This team has emotionally abused me to the point where I’m used to it. I know it’s coming. I don’t run from it, I don’t hide from it; I accept it. I know how this story ends. I know it’s going to worsen my hairline. I know it ends in heartbreak. But I’m ready for it. I’d rather they win and make me believe that this will finally be the year they win a playoff game, even if, in the end, they’ll go to Kansas City or Buffalo and lose, making it 25 years without a playoff win. Yes, I’ll be devastated and calling for people to be fired, but at least we made it. I know that sounds pathetic, but this is the life I’m used to.

I don’t think the Dolphins will make a playoff run, but right now, I’m all in on this playoff push that I know will ultimately end in heartbreak.
