The Red Sox Had A Very "Productive" 3-Hour Meeting With Juan Soto This Week And Appear To Be Going All In On Trying To Land The Superstar Outfielder

We've had some movement in the Soto sweepstakes and it came from a team that no one really expected, the Boston Red Sox. Chris Cotillo and Sean McAdam of MassLive.com wrote that the Sox had a 3-hour meeting with Soto and his camp on Thursday night and it was a "productive" meeting. We haven't heard much of anything surrounding Soto and his free agency so this is the first news and it has to make Boston fans pretty happy. After another disappointing season they are looking to spend some cash and get back into the playoffs, Soto would be a decent start to that process.

McAdam reported that the Sox brass met with Soto and his camp in Southern California on Thursday night and their meeting lasted around 3-hours. You have to think that they think the Sox are a legit candidate to land Soto if they're knocking out 3-hour meetings, you don't give a team with no shot a meeting that long. But again Boston has money, they are willing to spend and they are tired of being embarrassed in the division by the Yankees and O's, they're looking for someone to pair with Devers to bring that back and Soto is that guy. Plus stealing your rivals star would be the cherry on top for those Massholes. McAdam said the Sox party that attended the meeting was president Sam Kennedy, Sox chairman Tom Werner, chief baseball officer Craig Breslow and Alex Cora. They met with Soto and his team, including mega agent and pun master Scott Boras, but did not discuss money.

They put together a presentation for Soto detailing the history of the Red Sox's success with studs from the Dominican Republic, they also included highlights of their plans for the future and highlighted the Sox group of prospects who will be arriving soon. The meeting was said to be "largely introductory and informal in nature" but it sounds like a great first date if you're a Boston fan. Again, you don't waste 3 hours on a Thursday night if you aren't seriously considering them as a threat to sign Soto.

The Red Sox have 2 pretty big Dominican players they can pull out at any moment to try and persuade Soto to sign, David Ortiz and Manny Ramirez. 2 big aces in the hole if you're Boston. You'd think that the meeting would have started out with Ortiz and Manny sitting there with their World Series trophies and rings, that would have been a pretty good introduction if you asked me. Or just play the new Red Sox documentary from Netflix, that for sure would have been playing on the projector screen behind me if I was running the meeting. Again, it seems like they're going all out for this and if there is one player to do that for, it's Juan.

I do like to envision Juan Soto playing defense in that Boston outfield, the ball getting by him in right and rolling for days. Or him backing up to the wall and that ball hitting wayyyyy up top and bouncing back to the infield. Some great visuals of him in the outfield there. It would also be hilarious if in hindsight they let Mookie go for literally nothing, I mean absolutely nothing, and then giving Soto over $600 Million. That is what it will come down to though, money. And Boston has made it clear in the past they are watching how much they spend, not exactly what Soto and Boras want to hear. But again if there is one player to open the checkbook for, it's 22. The names connected to Soto were always LA, the Yankees, the Mets, the Blue Jays have come on strong lately, and Tampa (LOLOLOLOLOLOL) but the Sox have seemed to position themselves right there for his services after this opening meeting.

And I know, a "productive meeting" is far from a handshake deal but if you're a Boston fan you have to be thrilled at the news coming out from the meeting. It does seem like they're going balls to the wall to try and sway him, who knows if they can compete with the New York teams and Toronto for his services, I guess we'll see! It's still very early but this seems like a very real connection to me.
