Gregg Popovich Reportedly Suffered A Mild Stroke And Will Remain Out Indefinitely

About a week ago, Shams dropped the bomb that Spurs Head Coach Greg Popovich suffered a serious health issue and was going to be out for an indefinite amount of time

Obviously given how vague the tweet was, it was a bit of a shock. A health issue? What exactly did that mean? Given his age this could have meant anything. Then he went on TV and gave some additional details, and it sounded every bit as serious as I think most people took that initial tweet

Well the details are out, and it appears that Pop suffered a mild stroke

The good news of course is that he's expected to make a full recovery. When you hear the word "stroke", that's not exactly something that tends to end well, so it's a relief things look to be OK.

Seeing as how he's 75 years old, I don't think anyone would object if this is the thing that finally got Pop to call it a career. I know he's a basketball lifer, I know Wemby exists, but Pop has given the game of basketball enough to the point where it's OK if he decides to focus on his own health moving forward. Coaching in the NBA on a nightly basis is a grind, and at his age/given his health situation, it's just not worth it. Keep him on as an advisor or something if he still feels like he wants to be involved, but his health is obviously the most important thing.

Inducted into the HOF back in 2023, it goes without saying that Pop is one of the greatest basketball minds we've ever seen and one of the greatest coaches to ever do it. There isn't too much more for him to achieve as a coach that he hasn't already, and he deserves the opportunity to ride off into the sunset and enjoy his retirement.

Pop is truly a 1 of 1 human/coach, and here's to hoping he has a speedy recovery
