4-0 UFC Knockout Artist Carlos Prates Smokes 8-10 Cigarettes Per Day, Even Right Up Until He Fights

Carlos Prates is the man. He's 4-0 in the UFC with four huge knockouts (all this year), he's apart of the Fighting Nerds - one of the most successful mixed martial arts camps in the world right now - he's officially ranked as the #13 Welterweight in the world as of today....and shockingly, he's a big cigarette smoker through it all.

You may have known this already, as this video of him smoking after a fight (and finding out he won a bonus) went semi-viral a few months back....

....as did his attempt to bum a cig from the media after his next win....

….but Ariel Helwani finally asked him about it today, and Prates revealed that he had his first cigarette when he was 12 years old and smokes 8-10 cigarettes per day currently. He doesn't stop for fight camp, nor does he stop on the day of the fight - Prates said he'll smoke right up until he arrives at the UFC Apex. Now it's becoming more and more obvious why he wants to finish all of his fights before the third round; the dude's lungs are begging him to end it quick! The sooner you land the knockout the sooner you get to have your next cig!

He's not the first successful fighter I've heard refuse to stop smoking in camp, either….Jersey Jerry famously refused to stop vaping while training for his Rough N Rowdy fight with Jeff Nadu, and he kinda won that fight too. I think?

If Prates is able to keep knocking everybody out and wins a title one day, they gotta let him crank a few hoons on top of the octagon to celebrate. That could be his Stone Cold smashing beers moment. Sure, smoking is horrible for you and gives you cancer and shouldn't be promoted as something that is "cool" to the youth….but let's all be honest with ourselves, it's pretty fucking cool sometimes. And right after winning a UFC Championship would definitely be one of those times.
