QUESTION: Who The FUCK Is In Charge Of The Chicago Bears?

This whole DISASTER of a season, of half a season, gets me back to the root of the issue and the most frustrating element of being a Bears fan...nobody knows who is actually in charge. Ultimately, it is the McCaskeys. It's their family business. It's their name. It's their legacy. Having said that...I can't imagine a scenario at this point where the Matriarch or her son are actually running meetings or sitting up at night thinking about ways to turn this organization around. They are passive. The McCaskeys seem like nice people who have zero ability or interest in running a winning franchise.

If the McCaskeys aren't in charge, then who is? This offensive coordinator situation has me feeling like Charlie Kelly trying to solve a crime

How does Eberflus survive this Getsy/Waldron offensive fiasco? It's his staff, right? He's now on his 3rd offensive playcaller in three seasons. He's also on his 2nd defensive coordinator. That might be an actual record for incompetence. I can't think of a single time in NFL history where a head coach has had effectively 5 different coordinators inside of three seasons. To me (which I said in January as well) is a fireable offense. One of, if not the most important, things a coach has to do is build out a staff. Eberflus has objectively failed at this. Yet he is allowed to survive. Eberflus didn't exactly fall on his sword when talking about the decision either

"After evaluating our entire operation, I decided that it is in the best interest of our team to move in a different direction with the leadership of our offense. This decision was well-thought-out, one that was conducted deliberately and respectfully. I would like to thank Shane for his efforts and wish him the best moving forward."--Eberflus

He decided that it was in the best interest of the team to move in a different direction. That's good. Taking some ownership. Just once I'd like a coach or an authority figure in a leadership position to say "I. Fucked. Up.". We didn't exactly get that here. I wonder if Eberflus, after the disasters that were Getsy and Alan Williams, didn't have full autonomy to make hiring decisions. Was Poles involved? Was Poles the final word?

Then we got this bombshell from Silvy this morning

Full scale mutiny. Dysfunction off the charts. I'd love to know which vets want to see Bagent get a start. My guess is that it's a guy named Denniston. That is a complete guess though.

Then you have to wonder if Poles even has the authority and autonomy to go get a new coach. Remember this report from Schefter?

Two days of discussing the future of Matt Eberflus that ended up with him being retained. Who was in that meeting? Who was arguing for him to stay? Who wanted him shit canned? What was the logic for keeping him? Who ultimately made that decision? Who won the argument? Who the FUCK is in charge? Nobody knows anything which is great if you want to keep your job while George and Virginia drink their milk and take their naps. It's terrible if you're building your culture.

Then you see this from Fishbain

So the GM can't hire an elite head coach because the President won't allow it because of power dynamics and ego. That's how it reads. So if you're hoping that the Bears will get the next coaching hire right, think again. We are stuck in the same perpetual cycle. No leadership at all from the very top. The President is playing Game Of Thrones with the organization and isn't going to bring in anyone who questions his authority. Poles wasn't hired by Warren and I am sure he'd like to keep his job as long as possible so we are going to get some other loser coach who will eat shit for the organization as they are on their way to failing again. The cycle just continues.

How is George McCaskey not FURIOUS at these reports? Imagine not being able to take a run at Jim Harbaugh or Vrabel or Ben Johnson because your President has too big of an ego. Bro, go build the stadium, sell the ads, and shut the fuck up. Pick out the seat cushions for your stadium that doesn't exist anywhere except for photoshop and let the football guys do the football things. Poles should just call a press conference and say everything he knows. Go public. If you wanted to keep Eberflus…fucking say so. If you wanted to fire him this year, but were told you couldn't…say that too. Either way you will rally people behind you because all people want is the truth and some clarity. Nobody knows who wields the power and nobody knows who to blame. Ultimately it's everyone and the only way out is to sell to someone who cares about winning.
