Luckiest Guy In The World Buys $50 Painting At A Barn Sale, Turns Out It's Worth $200,000

UPI News-- A painting bought for $50 at a New York barn sale is headed to auction and expected to fetch up to $200,000 after being identified as a 1912 piece by Canadian artist Emily Carr.

New York-based art dealer Allen Treibitz said he was at a barn sale in the Hamptons when the painting, which depicts a carved grizzly bear at the top of a totem pole, caught his eye.

He bought the painting for $50, and his research soon determined it was a piece called Masset Q.C.I. and was painted in 1912 by Carr. The painting is now one of four works by Carr due to be auctioned by the Heffel Gallery next month in Toronto. It is expected to sell for between $100,000 and $200,000.

Why not me? Just once why not me? Why on earth haven't I walked past, driven past, or even stopped at yard sales, garage sales or just people throwing shit out with a sign that says "Free- please take!" and never once even sniffed something as valuable as this. What am I doing wrong?

Seriously, I have all my sports cards that are worthless, my sports memorabilia that I love but wouldn't sniff 6 figures, and of course the pictures of myself hung in my basement. Honestly those might be worth the most.

We read stories like this here and there- a Brinks truck will explode on the highway and people will pocket a quick grand. Never me. No Great Aunt Bertha in Liechtenstein that left me a few million. No nothin.

So yeah, this guy has got to be the luckiest bastard in the world. I'll never understand what makes people drawn to random items but this guy clearly has a clover up his ass because let's face it... this is an ugly as sin piece of artwork and it turns out he's sitting on 200k. And don't even get me started on art. I have some shit in my house, I just need some art person to decide it's worth six figures. And they aren't as ugly as that one.

Imagine if he didn't love heinous looking art how different his fortune would be. I guess it pays to look for ugly art.

PS- I hate this guy.
