Alabama Holds Off an Insane Georgia Comeback To Win the Game of the Year

Let's all just take a moment to appreciate what we were just able to witness. That collegiate football game was the definition of cinema.

Georgia looked like it had just totally forgotten how to play football in the first half. Carson Beck looked completely lost, the Bulldogs' defense couldn't stop a nosebleed and Kirby Smart was being thoroughly out-coached by a carpetbagging yankee who showed up in Tuscaloosa and was seemingly going to kick everybody's ass. The game was over.

And then somehow, the Bulldogs slowly but surely made their way back into the game before flipping a switch in the fourth quarter. UGA trailed 33-15 entering the final frame and ripped off touchdowns on three straight possessions to take a 34-33 lead.

But of course, not to be outdone, Jalen Milroe launched a 75-yard touchdown pass to freshman Ryan Williams on the first play after Georgia took the lead to put the Crimson Tide back in front. We went from a blitzkrieg in the first quarter to a snoozefest for half the game and then one of the best quarters of football we've ever seen in the fourth.

And Beck took the Dawgs all the way back down the field and had it seeming like we might get overtime before eventually throwing the final pick. I guess that undoes some of what he and Georgia were able to do to come all the way back, but even getting that game in a position to be an instant classic was an incredible effort.

I don't really know what conclusions you can even draw from this one. Each team spent roughly half the game looking unbeatable and the other half looking like dogshit. I'm very confident both of these teams will be right there at the end of the season and I just hope we get to see this game again at some point because these teams metting up when they have everything figured out would be unbelievable.

College football is so awesome.
