Move Over Woj Bombs, It's Time For "Windy Bombs" As Media Insiders Believe Brian Windhorst Was Being Held Back At ESPN By Woj
Now that Woj is officially out of the NBA news breaking game, there's a question as to who the new challenger to Shams is going to be. Even though Shams is technically a free agent and will probably end up as the Woj replacement at ESPN, there's rumblings among "media insiders" as to who might be poised to shoot up the news breaking rankings. Who might that be you ask?
"Media insiders" eh? Hmmm, who do we think that is?
If Shams is going to command an outrageous price in free agency, it doesn't seem too far-fetched that ESPN is instead going to go all in on Windy as their main NBA newsbreaker. I mean, he did have one of the greatest news-breaking performances in TV history a few years ago
combined with an all-time rant in these past Finals where he completely eviscerated Luka
so I could see this move becoming a reality. It's not like Windy isn't plugged in, and sure a lot of that might be LeBron/Klutch related, but Windy has been in the game long enough that we've reached the point where you have to put some stock into his "reporting".
What I find funny about this whole thing is the idea that Windy was "held back" by Woj's presence. What does that even mean? That Windy had scoops he couldn't share because they had to go through Woj? I'd like some more details around that if we're being honest. Has Woj just been a Windy merchant all this time? The idea that Woj was some aging veteran who was blocking the young prospect from getting some sine and now that he's gone that young prospect is about to become a force is also very funny. I mean, we did kind of see that with Shams which is the root of the Shams/Woj battles, so maybe there's some truth to that claim.

It does seem like as Windy has gotten older he's become more self-aware and has changed the narrative that he's just a guy who follows and reports on LeBron. You start hitting on a couple of your "reports" and I have no choice but to respect your game. Outside of that time Windy said he couldn't vote for Jayson Tatum as the 2024 regular season MVP because he lost in the 2022 Finals (which was patently insane)
I feel like he's been riding high ever since that Jazz scoop. The key to Windy's ascension is if he can fill the "team source" role that Woj is leaving. As we know, Shams is the player/agent narrative guy and Woj was the team side. Now with Woj out of the picture team execs are going to need someone to leak their side to, and why can't it be Windy? He's put in the time, he's gotten the reps, he's had some major hits. I say give him the keys and let him cook,
And while I admit "Windy Bomb" doesn't hit quite the same as "Woj bomb", I don't think anything will ultimately match that level of aura. But Windy also brings the meme element to the table, and given this is all entertainment at the end of the day, that's a huge point in his corner.
We saw Shams win the eventual war against Woj, now let's see if he can do the same against an empowered Windy.
