"Fuck That" - Marlins Manager Skip Schumaker Was Disgusted By The Thought Of Walking Shohei Ohtani

If you were sleeping all yesterday you missed Shohei Ohtani have maybe the best day EVER for anyone at the plate. He had 50/50 in his sights and said "let's just get it all done tonight." Hubbs highlighted it all here, such an incredible game for the best player we're ever going to watch. 6/6, 3 homers, 10 RBI, 17 total bases, clinched playoffs- the guy had himself a day. But it appears that at least one person in the Marlins dugout was thinking about giving Ohtani a free base so he could't hit #50 vs them. 

Now THAT is what I'm talking about. Such a great response by Schumaker. Sure the Marlins were headed for their 97th loss of the season and he's likely going to be looking for a job in about a week and a half. But he isn't going to take the cheap way out and intentionally walk Ohtani to prevent the inevitable. He's got a pitcher who has a job to do, he just didn't do it. Putting Ohtani on base with an IBB would have been such a coward move, like the lowest of the low move. 

Baseball karma is real folks, the baseball gods are always watching. Schumaker didn't want the wrath of the gods coming down on him anymore than they already have. He's had to manage the Marlins for gods sake, that's tough enough.

I thought this was an awesome move because again, he could have been a coward and hid in the dugout and shown Baumann 4 fingers and told him to go to first. Maybe Dave Roberts brings him back to put on Dodger blue next year when he's looking for a gig as a "Thank You" for pitching to him. Cool to see him handle this like a baseball person and not an egomaniac who was terrified of being on the other side of history.
