The Ballwashing Of TV's "The Bear" Knows No End As It Cleaned Up At This Year's Emmy Awards

The Emmy Awards were Sunday night.

I'm watching The Chicago Bears do their best to let their first overall draft pick get killed, but all I kept seeing on twitter was The Bear the tv show cleaning up at the awards.

And not just any rewards, but comedy awards?

Giphy Images.

Turns out, before the awards even started, the ballwashing had already begun.

Wow. That's a lot of Emmys.

As soon as it did begin, they were off and running.

(This lady is an awesome actress, and her character is awesome, but what is she doing winning this in a comedy category vs. Meryl freaking Streep, ("Only Murders in the Building")?)

(Yes, amazing episode of television. From last season. Not even this most recent season. But how on Earth was this funny, whatsoever? The episode made your skin crawl for 30 minutes because of how raw, well written and well acted it was. It felt like you were a guest at that dinner table with John Mulaney trying to wish yourself invisible out of straight awkwardness. Not comedy.)

(I will say, if we're being honest, besides the Fack brothers, this guy is the only character with a shred of humor in him. He's pretty funny. Nowhere near as funny as he was in Season 1. But he seems completely neutered by the writers now who want to make him this deep, sympathetic character now instead of just the crazy guy from the neighborhood every Chicagoan knows.)

and the big one -

I'm not a hater of the show. Far from it. I jumped on board as soon as the show premiered and loved it. (As documented in several of my blogs at the time, but mostly from my blog about how excited I was for this latest season the day it premiered.) But from where it began, to where it is now, is night and day. I wrote about how disappointing this latest season of the show was not too long ago.

Apparently this is old news, people have been bitching about this since last season, but at least last season still had a couple of moments that made you laugh to yourself or at least smile.

Watching this season was like sitting in the dentist's office waiting for them to call your name. It was so fucking nerve-wracking, awkward, and filled with dread.

Could not have been further from comedic.

The awards show's hosts couldn't even wait to address this exact topic right off the bat at the start of the show!

But the show's actors don't give a shit.

But you know who does care? Actors on actual comedies watching this show trounce comedians, and funny writers and actors because everybody wants to heap praise on this show now.

What the hell's going on out here?

p.s. - on that last blog I wrote that I linked to in here, somebody left a comment that was a brilliant idea saying that FX should make a spinoff show/prequel based around the Mikey character and him slinging beefs at the old spot before he committed suicide and The Bear's storyline picks up. Best character by a mile and between the interactions with the customers on a regular basis and the the upkeep of a grease-trap like that would be great television.
