BAND FIGHT! Perry Farrell And Dave Navarro Of Jane's Addiction Got In A Fist Fight On Stage Last NIght At Their Show In Boston

I know this is old news by this point in the day, but I'm blogging this sitting backstage, just finished DJing at Dave's Pizza Fest where it sold out and there's 5,000 people here for the first of two sessions. So cut me some slack.

Hey, how's that Jane's Addiction reunion tour going?

USA Today - Jane's Addiction recently reunited — and getting the band back together took a shocking turn Friday.

According to concert footage shared by fans, the band's concert in Boston was halted and came to a surprising end when Perry Farrell punched guitarist Dave Navarro. Farrell was restrained by crew members and a man who appeared to be bassist Eric Avery as he threw punches and was pulled away from Navarro.

Jane's Addiction is currently on a reunion tour with their four original members, which delighted fans amid their return. The band was also slated to play in Bridgeport, Connecticut on Sunday.

Brian Mackenzie, a photographer, spoke out about the incident: "I was shooting the show for the venue.. that clip really has everything notable that happened onstage. Perry had a huge bottle of wine with him all evening, Navarro and Avery kept chatting with each other the whole show and seemed angrier than normal."

What really sucks is that I talked to some people on social media who were at this show and they said the crowd thought this was bit. Like a wrestling bit, but a bit nonetheless. People were laughing, thinking that this was a playful was of the band breaking before coming back on stage to do an encore.

So fans stood around waiting for that encore.

But it never happened because Perry Farrell took a legit swing at Dave Navarro and was legit dragged off stage by band members and security.

Awkward.

Love that photog chalking this up to Perry housing a bottle of wine. Ha. I would love to know what else was in his system when he pulled this.

You could tell he was on another planet just by the way Navarro looked at him. Couldn't have been more surprised.

Farrell's wife, Etty Lou, took to her own social media this morning to offer an explanation for the whole thing. Totally normal, non-enabling behavior.

Rather than speculating, I thought to post a first person account of what happened on stage with @janesaddiction last night at the @lenderpavilion in Boston.

WHO: Perry Farrell & Dave Navarro

HOW: Clearly there had been a lot of tension and animosity between the members.. the magic that made the band so dynamic. Well, the dynamite was lit. Perry got up in Dave’s face and body checked him.

WHY: Perry’s frustration had been mounting, night after night, he felt that the stage volume had been extremely loud and his voice was being drowned out by the band. Perry had been suffering from tinnitus and a sore throat every night. But when the audience in the first row, started complaining up to Perry cussing at him that the band was planning too loud and that they couldn’t hear him, Perry lost it.

WHEN: The band started the song Ocean before Perry was ready and did the count off.. The stage volume was so loud at that point, that Perry couldn’t hear pass the boom and the vibration of the instruments and by the end of the song, he wasn’t singing, he was screaming just be to be heard.

SO WHO WON THE FIGHT:

Why, Eric Avery of course. While Dave was keeping Perry at arm’s length to de-escalate the situation. Dan rushed over to de-escalate as well by holding Perry back. Dave walked away to take his guitar off. Eric walked up to Perry, upstage, in the dark, behind Dan, put Perry in a headlock and punched him in the stomach three times. Kevin, crewmember with a long hair with long hair pulled Eric away. Then Eric nonchalant walked off to the front of the stage to apologize to audience for the show ended early.

WHAT WAS THE AFTERMATH?

Dave still looked handsome and cool in the middle of a fight. Perry was a crazed beast for the next half an hour - he finally did not calm down, but did breakdown and cried and cried. Eric, well he either didn’t understand what descalation meant or took advantage of the situation and got in a few cheap shots on Perry.

Well, that’s is my first person account narrative of what happened. Take a look at the video yourself. #Janesaddiction #amancanonlybepushedsofar #davetookthehighroad #Cheapshot #leaderbankpavilion #mothereagle

So according to Etty Lou, her husband assaulted his bandmate because the sound guy in front of house ran their levels too-high for Perry's liking 9 hours earlier during soundcheck. Copy. And laugh out loud.

I hope we get the true story about what set this off, but doubt it. I guess just chalk this one up to rockstars going to rockstar.

Here's full video from another angle.

p.s. - I looked everywhere but it's not online anywhere, but I remember discovering what a strange dude Dave Navarro was on an MTV Cribs episode he did where he showed off a coffin in his bedroom that he used to sleep in. The Carmen Electra thing never made sense to me after that.
