The Pac-12 Needs At Least Two More Schools: Can They Become A Great Basketball Conference?

It sucks that the Mountain West appears to be losing its luster of what had becoming a very fun basketball conference. And I know the the Pac-12 resurgence has everything to do with football, so basketball, like all other sports these days, takes a far back seat to the money that the ol' pigskin brings in. But hear me out: should the Pac-12 make some moves and become a pretty fucking solid basketball conference?

Right now they have Boise State, San Diego State, Colorado State, Oregon State, Fresno State, and Washington State. And they need to add two more schools to remain legitimate in the College Football Playoff. Can we convince Memphis and Tulane to come from the ACC, and Gonzaga + St. Mary's to join, going back to the old Pac-10 name and having a damn good basketball conference? Titus and I discuss that we hope so, but it doesn't seem likely. Or maybe if the ACC gets split up, the Pac-12 will receive Stanford and Cal once again....

Conference realignment sucks, but that's what dominates the news these days. Other topics discussed:

- The state of Connecticut put up a border sign that says "Welcome to Connecticut: The Basketball Capital of the World" (Is Titus offended?)

- College Basketball has its own "October 12th - Best Day of the Year" like College Football does. Would you attend a wedding on December 14th?

- Blue Ribbon predicts Rutgers will finish 15th in the Big 10. Gambling odds say they are the 5th favorite. We discuss (with TJ) what the season might look like for the Scarlet Knights, who have two of the top three freshmen in the country.

- Mark Few has announced Brian Michaelson will take over for him at Gonzaga when he is all said and done, but he has no retirement plans. Why?

- Gary Payton is going back to Community College to coach a team that went 7-21 last year. Why would someone worth $50,000,000 do that?
