Not Good: Deshaun Watson Was Sacked 6 Times In Week 1 And PFF Said Zero Of Them Were The Offensive Line's Fault

Look I'm not the biggest analytics guy in the world, and the old fashioned Eye Ball Test told me that our Offensive Line played like a combination of Swiss cheese and a wet paper towel on Sunday, but PFF is a pretty recognized source of credible information in the football world. And PFF is telling me that Deshaun Watson had an average of 4.1 seconds of protection per pass play against the Cowboys. And PFF is telling me that of all six sacks Deshaun Watson took, zero of them were the Offensive Lines fault. So the takeaway from those numbers is clear: Deshaun Watson held onto the ball too long.

I'll admit that the play above was very bad from Deshaun Watson. And I'll admit that Deshaun Watson looked fucking terrible on Sunday. It wasn't only holding onto the ball, but even when he did get rid of it, he legitimately threw it 500 yards out of bounds. Side note: I meant to type 50, but accidentally hit another 0, and have decided to leave it as 500 because that's how egregious his throws were.

HOWEVER, and I can't believe I'm saying this, PFF needs to cut Watson some slack here. Not because he did anything good, but because you cannot tell me with a straight face that the Offensive Line played well. Or that the Defense played well. Or that Kevin Stefanski coached well. The fact of the matter is that the Browns were truly terrible in every facet of the game, and the fan base / media is using this moment to pile on Deshaun Watson. Jeff D. Lowe said it well on the Rundown….you have to give Deshaun more time as the starter because the rest of the team was so awful. If we had the best defense in the league, or if Chubb was healthy, or if it was clear and obvious that this team would be good if we had a competent QB, then you make the switch. But there's nothing this team showed on Sunday that led me to believe that if Pat Mahomes, let alone Jameis Winston, was out there for the Browns, that it would've made a difference. I'm afraid the Browns are Ass….
