Baker Mayfield Has Put Himself On The MVP Radar After Leading The Bucs To A 1-0 Start

Baker Mayfield dominated vs. the Commanders going 24/30 for 289 yards with 4 TD passes and 0 turnovers. He was mint on 3rd down leading the Bucs to 9/13 on the money down, which I believe was the key to the game. He did it from start to finish.

His 3 carries for 21 yards isn't a crazy number, but he made plays time after time to get them out of trouble. Not only to run but to buy time to pass.

Looking at the rest of the board the closest competitors were:

CJ Stroud: 24/32 234 yards 2 TDs 0 INTs 4 carries 13 yards

Josh Allen: 18/23 232 yards 2 TDs 0 INTs 1 fumble lost 9 carries 39 yards 2 rushing TDs

Stroud and Allen are firmly in the MVP conversation and both put their teams on their back to get their team a Victory Monday, but Baker did the same. The Bucs defense was good allowing just under 300 total yards but failing to get a turnover. It's obviously very early and they played a poor defense that underwent a coaching change, but if Baker Mayfield's efficiency can stay at this level the rest of the year, he'll be firmly in the MVP consideration too.
