American Tennis Star Taylor Fritz Is Three Sets Away From Immortality, And On Sunday He'll Chase It In The US Open Final

Taylor Fritz is three sets away from breaking a 21 year long curse and conquering destiny. Just getting to this point is an accomplishment in its self, no doubt. On Sunday he'll become the first American man in a grand slam final since 2009. It took a comeback from the brink of elimination on Friday, but he got it done after outlasting Frances Tiafoe in five sets.

While it's incredibly brutal for Frances Tiafoe, this has been a long time coming for Fritz. Finally we get the break through after years of struggles to go deep in slams. It's all come together at the 2024 US Open. I've said it in previous blogs, but Fritz used to be a statue with a low ceiling at slams. He was just a big serve bot with limited mobility and minimal ground game. You'd see the top talent on tour and know he had no shot at competing against them. He got to work and it's all paying off. Now he's able to more than hold his own, which you see in the rallies below. He's an all court player with a ton of game.

Now everyone is going to ask, can he beat Jannik Sinner? The hell do I know. If you go back a few rounds, I thought if Tommy Paul played literally anyone else in the tournament he would have won the first two sets he played against the world no. 1. That's how good Sinner was and is. His ball striking is the best on tour. It sounds like a fucking bomb is going off when he hits it clean. And he hits it clean A LOT. It takes so much out of you to just stay in the match against him. Poor Jack Draper threw up multiple times in their semifinal match on Friday afternoon. Quick shout out to Draper for finishing that match and giving everything he had. Came up very short, but he'll be a force on tour for a long time if he can stretch out his endurance and fitness.

Just shows you what it takes out of you physically just to try and win a set off the star Italian these days. It's Novak-esque.

Worth noting that Sinner did have a big bag of ice on his left wrist after that match. Probably not a big deal given his smile, but Fritz will need every advantage possible going into Sunday's final.

That woman on the right by the way? That'd be fellow tennis player and current girlfriend to Sinner, Anna Kalinskaya.

On Saturday we have college football, but we also have Jessica Pegula on at 4 PM in the women's final against Sabalenka. On Sunday we have the NFL, but also gotta root for Fritz at 2 PM. One day the US Open will grow a brain and put both finals on Monday to avoid football entirely, but for now we bring in multiple screens and follow both. Go USA Go. Find a way
