The Pussificiation Of America Continues: Shota Imanaga Pulled In The 7th Inning Of A Combined No Hitter

Do people care about combined-no hitters? I feel like that's a bigger reach every year but maybe that's just getting older. 52 years between Wrigley no-hitters is certainly history but then we start throwing in a modifier like combined and I get hesitant.

Gut instinct says the bigger story is that the Cubs can't let Shota break 100 pitches in a near-guarantee-non-playoff scenario. The people willing to show up tonight after blowing an 8th inning 3-run lead on Monday, then getting blanked in the biggest game of the year Tuesday… those people deserve a look at real baseball history. That's what my gut instinct says.

I imagine many of you are in line with this thinking and to that I say thank you for being smart enough to maintain the right amount of old school vibes in the game. I understand Shota has many more starts in front of him and there is a lot of data to suggest blah blah blah. But we got a chance to really send a message to the Far East and instead we took Shota out after 7. On the heels of another major Japanese free agent being linked to the Cubs no less.

Does this shit matter? I certainly hope not, but it's fun to complain.

Meantime you couldn't pick a worse spot to try and rally the Cubs fan base. The worst blue balls OTPHJ you're ever going to find in a junior college parking lot is going on right now at Wrigley Field. So much coulda/woulda/shoulda that I don't even know how to try and enjoy such a momentous achievement.

Unless…

Unless of course this sparks a 20-game win streak then by all means. Boys. Eat your fucking hearts out.

Beautiful thing is they play tomorrow and there's a chance to keep it rolling.

Cubs are off tomorrow then play the Yankees and Dodgers in back-to-back 3 game series

Nevermind.

Bears kick on Sunday at noon. They have a better chance at winning the super bowl than the Cubs do at making the playoffs if you want some quantitative analysis.

Which reminds me. Big Short is a great movie.
