49ers WR Ricky Pearsall Has Been Released From The Hospital After He Was Shot During A Robbery Attempt This Weekend In Downtown San Francisco

Yahoo Sports - San Francisco 49ers first-round draft pick Ricky Pearsall was placed on the reserve/non-football injury list Monday. It means he will be inactive for the first four games of the 2024 season.

Pearsall is lucky to be alive after being wounded on Saturday during an alleged robbery attempt. A teen attempted to rob the wide receiver of his Rolex watch. In the ensuing battle, Pearsall and the would-be robber were both wounded.

The NFL team said Pearsall was released from Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital Sunday afternoon as he "continues to recover" from the shooting.

"He and his family, along with the entire San Francisco 49ers organization, would like to thank the San Francisco Police Department, emergency medical services, doctors and staff at San Francisco General Hospital," the team said in a statement posted on X.

Pearsall's mother, Erin Pearsall, posted a statement on Facebook Sunday, saying, "I want to thank GOD for protecting my baby boy. He is extremely lucky, GOD shielded him," she wrote in the post that was shared on social media by her son's 49er teammates, including quarterback Brock Purdy. "He was shot in the chest and it exited out his back. Thanks be to GOD it missed his vital organs."

San Francisco Mayor London Breed, meanwhile, described the incident as "terrible and rare."

Welp it looks like San Francisco is living up to its reputation once again. Not only is it the land of sky-high rents and tech bros on scooters, but it's also apparently the Wild West where even NFL players can't escape a stray bullet.

Clem blogged this on Saturday when the news broke.

Pearsall is going to miss the first month being on the PUP list because those are the rules, but he's lucky to be alive. Thank goodness 49ers' wide receiver Ricky Pearsall is okay after his weekend adventure in the city by the bay.

What a weclome to San Francisco for the rookie!

I guess getting shot is just another item to check off the San Fran bucket list, right after dodging human waste on the sidewalk and getting your catalytic converter stolen.

I've been a broken record around here talking about what a shithole San Francisco has devolved into over the past few years. (When you live in Chicago nowadays, you take every opportunity you can get to punch down on somebody. That's called a pro tip.)

Thank God for Pearsall and the 49ers (and the city and state government) that Pearsall didn't sustain a life-threatening injury, and that bullet exited out his back. This obviously could have been a lot worse. And props to the first responding officers who arrived on scene and calmed Pearsall down and helped save his life.

This whole incident is a sad reflection of the state of San Francisco. It's a city with so much potential, but its leadership seems more concerned with virtue signaling than actually addressing the rampant crime and decay.
