Shocker! The Rage Baiters Were Wrong About 'Star Wars: Outlaws'

Giphy Images.

ICYMI, there is a new Star Wars underworld game that came out. And I'll tell you what, I saw it getting SLAMMED in pre-release. If you've been following the game at all, it's impossible to escape Tiktoks, tweets, and IGs calling it one of the worst games of the year, garbage, etc.

I got an early copy and I'm happy to report that those reports are wrong. O

I had set a reasonable expectation for this game. It's a Ubisoft production, So I was expecting a basic Assassins Creed game grafted onto the Star Wars world. That is, more or less, exactly what it is. A pretty simple stealth game with lots of side missions, explorable areas and customization. If people were expecting RDR2, that's on them. Here is a simple pro and con list for anyone considering buying.

PROS:

- The planets are big and there is plenty of map to traverse

- The world building does a great job establishing some new lore.

- The crime family dynamic/system is cool and forces a lot of hard choices.

- I really like the leveling system + amount of customization.

- The main missions are solid and I love the volume of side quests (I highly recommend not rushing the main story).

- If you like stealth gameplay, you'll prob like this.

CONS:

- The Combat system/combat in general isn't great.

- Stealth knockouts are a critical part of the game and I think more care could have been put into their animation. A 120lbs girl knocking out a stormtrooper with a single punch to the helmet is lame. Give her a vibro-knife from Mando or something.

- Space travel is really fun but space combat could also use something fresh.

- Between this and 'Forespoken', the video game voice actor industry might need to outlaw "theater kid" line delivery

Overall, it is an entertaining time. Again, it's no RDR2 or Black Myth Wukong but it is clearly not trying to be. I've logged probably 8 hours of the last couple of days and I feel like I've barely scratched the surface of the story.
