I'm Struggling To Get Read On Kyle Mooney's New Horror Comedy 'Y2K'

'Two high school nobodies make the decision to crash the last major celebration before the new millennium on New Year's Eve 1999. The night becomes even crazier than they could have ever dreamed when the clock strikes midnight.'

Like I said in the title, I'm struggling a bit with this one.

On the one hand, you have the incredibly funny Kyle Mooney directing his first movie. A cool concept in "What if Y2K was real?". A vibe that's sort of a mix between the 'Project X' and 'Superbad' movies of our youth and a little 'Small Soldiers'. A rare, 90 minute runtime. All of that is pretty intriguing.

On the other hand, this cast isn't very promising. The kid from 'IT' paired up with Rachel Zegler, who is coming off the heels of a DISASTROUS press tour over the last year for 'Snow White' which turned a lot of the public against her. That does nothing for me, although Julian Dennison was very solid in 'Deadpool 2' and near perfect in 'Hunt for the Wilderpeople'. On top of that, not a single joke in this trailer did anything for me. Hopefully they're going in the opposite direction of seemingly all movies nowadays and saving their best stuff for the actual movie instead of putting it in the trailer.

I pray I'm just being overly pessimistic because we could really use more top-tier, high school comedies
