A Congresswoman is Getting Savaged Online for the Crime of Impressively Modeling Some Pro-Trump Swimwear

Let me reintroduce you to Florida Congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna, whom I last spoke of during the lead up to the 2020 elections. Because she was running as a longshot candidate at the time, but it seemed she had drawn the attention the head of Republican ticket, and the sitting United States President at the time:

Whether it was because their policy views lined up. On 2nd Amendment issues, for example:

… or because Trump saw her district as a potential swing vote on critical issues, is a value judgment for someone else to make. All I knew at the time was that POTUS was reaching out to her personally quite a bit:

Of course he ended up losing, while she went on to become Rep. Luna.

Make of that what you will. I'm not here to advocate for one viewpoint over another. One ideology over another. Allow me to express my point of view by quoting a great thinker, quoting another great thinker:

"-Ism's in my opinion are not good. A person should not believe in an -ism, he should believe in himself. I quote John Lennon, 'I don't believe in Beatles, I just believe in me.' Good point there." - Ferris Bueller

What I'm here to discuss is the way Rep. Luna is being treated on the internet as she's up for reelection. As the campaign season heats up, her political opposition is attacking her in the most reprehensible manner possible. Smearing her in a way that women have unfortunately had to face since they first entered the political realm. I'd this sort of tawdry, salacious treatment would've been on the ash heap of history by 2024. But I'm sorry to report it's alive and well still.

There's attacking a woman for supporting Trump or his policies. That's at the very heart of our democratic system. What I'm talking about is this. Which is straight up slut-shaming:

To me, this is disgusting treatment. Misogyny at its worst. In a government filled with corruption, of officials both elected and non-elected, Republicans, Democrats and Independents alike, gorging themselves at the public trough while the needs of We the People go unaddressed, to attack a woman for being super attractive? It's nothing short of appalling and obscene.

Hate her policies. Hate her voting record. Hate her support of her candidate. Hate the bathing suit and the campaign slogan that appears on it. But hating the way she looks modeling it has no place in a civilized society. No matter which side of the political divide is doing it.

Which is why I'm happy to report that Rep. Luna is part of that new breed of strong, independent female legislators who does not suffer fools gladly and who will not be silenced:

Good for her. Regardless of politics, this response is a fine example to America's young women and future leaders that they do NOT have to bend to the will of the mob. That they can be their authentic selves. To stand strong in the face of criticism from those who resent them because they can wear the shit out of a bathing suit. And I'm proud to stand with her legion supporters, regardless of their views on other issues:

So keep fighting that good fight, Congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna. Make Swimsuit Modeling Great Again.
