'We Got a Bunch of Pi Kapps': This Alabama High School Coach Is Not Overly Confident in His Team's Chances Taking on a Squad of SEC Recruits

When I saw this quote, I was certain Vestavia Hills was some high school in the middle of nowhere that somehow ended up playing a powerhouse to open the season and head coach Robert Evans was just keeping it real about his squad getting their ass kicked. Then I started writing this blog and found out they should probably be favored in their opener against Carver.

In the Montgomery Advertiser's Week 1 rankings, Vestavia Hills is No. 18 in the state and Carter is No. 23. Is Bob Evans lying to me about his team being full of future frat stars when he actually has ringers?

Carver High School has three big-time recruits that I could find: 2025 4-star RB Anthony Rogers (committed to Alabama), 2025 3-star WR Tristan Norman (committed to Texas A&M) and 2026 3-star WR Zion Crumpton (uncommitted). Now that's definitely not an ideal offense to have to face to start the season, but if you're playing 7A football in Alabama, you're going to have to beat teams like that. I didn't see any big offers for guys on Vestavia Hills, but those who cover Alabama high school football seem to think they have a pretty solid team.

Regardless of how this game turns out, this was an incredible quote from Evans. And while I'm sure there are definitely some future SEC frat boys on every high school team in Alabama, I just wish he had been a little more honest with us about the fact that he actually has one of the best teams in the state.

I will now be tuning in for Frat Stars vs. 5-Stars, though.
