It got dicey, and the Team USA Women's Basketball team almost blew it in what would've been a historic upset and collapse amidst a 60-game win streak, but they won Gold and vaulted us over China.

With a 40 Gold to 40 Gold tie (medal tables are actually unofficial kept by the IOC, fun fact), Team USA wins the Gold Medal count based on tiebreaker, which is Silver medals.

Here are some facts & figures about Team USA's Paris 2024 Olympics:

    • Most TOTAL medals won by the USA in a non-boycotted Olympics since 1904
    • Most TOTAL medals won by a country since USSR at Seoul 1988
    • Second most TOTAL medals won by a country in a non-boycotted Olympics since 1908
    • Team USA has won every TOTAL medal count since the 1992 Barcelona Olympics
    • Team USA has won every GOLD medal count since the 2008 Beijing Olympics
    • The fourth time Team USA has won 40 Gold Medals in non-boycotted Olympics since 1970

A large part of the reason Team USA won the Gold Medal count was the Track & Field Team:

    •  Team USA's 34 TOTAL Track & Field medals are the most since Los Angeles 1984 Olympics
      • Most in a non-boycotted Olympics since Los Angeles 1932 Olympics
      • Most in a non-hosted & boycotted Olympics since Stockholm 1912 Olympics
      • First ever Gold Medal sweep by Team USA in all 4 Hurdles events (110m, 110m, 400m 2x)
      • Gabby Thomas the 5th American woman to win THREE Track Golds at an Olympics
      • Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone broke 400m Hurdles World Record for 6th time
      • Women's 4x400m Relay team broke 36-year-old American Record
        • Missed 36-year-old World Record by .10 seconds
        • Eight straight Gold Medals in the event by the Women
      • Quincy Hall (16-years-old) youngest Male track athlete to win a Gold Medal
      • Ryan Crouser first ever three-time & back-to-back-to-back Men's Shot Put Gold Medalist
      • Jasmine Moore 2nd woman to medal in BOTH Long & Triple Jump at same Olympics
      • Only 2nd Gold in Men's 1500m since London 1908 Olympics
        • Best overall by any country (1-3-5) since Sweden (1-2-5) at London 1948 Olympics
        • Best overall by Team USA (1-3-5) since St. Louis 1904 Olympics (1-2-3-4)
      • Grant Fisher 1st USA runner to medal in BOTH 5000m & 10000m Olympic events

Honestly, I may be missing some stuff, and credit to the king of Olympics stats & facts Bill Mallon for some of these numbers that I wasn't able to pull myself. Shout out and non-humble pat on the back to myself for calling this historic Games for USA Track & Field in one of my Olympics preview blog.

Overall, it was a successful Games for the United States, and a fun one for viewers.

I very well may have forgotten something, but hopefully this is a good recap to close the Games of the XXXIII Olympiad in Paris, France.

It's time for the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA to host the Olympic Games in four years, and this guy is apparently going to be part of the handover in the Closing Ceremony…

    …can't wait.

    GO USA.
