Report: Olivia Munn's Jokes About Premarital Sex and Giving Oral Ruined Aaron Rodgers' Relationship With His Parents

You think you know a guy. Even someone who's been in front and center in the public eye for over 20 years. And yet even while garnering terabytes of attention, fame and adulation for two decades, a celebrity can be a complete mystery. Even someone who has been as open and candid about his personal life as Aaron Rodgers.

I'll admit that when I heard Rodgers was estranged from his family, I defaulted to thinking it was all because of him. I assumed he's difficult. High maintenance. Ego-driven. In love with his own fame. An extension of the quarterback we see on the field, in press conferences, and giving interviews.

But I was wrong to jump to such conclusions. It was completely unfair. First, it was presumptuous to judge people I know nothing about. But also for not giving him the benefit of the doubt. And for that, I offer my sincerest, heartfelt apology.

That is, assuming this book coming out about his is accurate:

Daily Mail - Aaron Rodgers's parents blamed his then girlfriend Olivia Munn for their son cutting off contact with them for nine years, a new biography about the football superstar reveals.

Ed and Darla Rodgers felt that the actress was the 'chief culprit' behind their family discord which began in 2014 when she began dating their second son, according to 'Out of the Darkness: The Mystery of Aaron Rodgers', by sports journalist Ian O'Connor.

Darla, a devout Christian, was mortified that Munn, now 44, was having sex with Rodgers, 40, before marriage. And she was even more aghast when Munn revealed in interviews about how they didn't do it on game days. ...

'Darla did not appreciate how Munn joked about oral sex in an interview or how she publicly talked about her sex life with Aaron.' ...

The interview in question appeared to be Munn talking on 'Watch What Happens Live' in December 2014 where host Andy Cohen asked her if she had sex with the then Green Bay Packers quarterback on game days.

She replied: 'No, we don't. Not on game days. There's not a rule, but it just doesn't happen because there are other things to focus on.'

However, Munn said they occasionally have sex after Packers games. 'It depends on how late the game is…I try to have sex as much as I can.' she said.

Now to be completely fair, Rodgers was ever the gentleman in discussing his and Munn's relationship with the author, never blaming her for the split with his parents:

Which is mighty nice of him, frankly. Because, while never mentioning anyone by name, Munn has never been shy about dumping on some of her exes and letting the public assume she's referring to him:

And for him to take the high road anyway, after all these years, well that's a sort of noble, high-character nobless oblige that is rare in this day and age. And I admire him for it.

As far as his parents go, I feel strongly that we all should respect their beliefs. Families are complicated. It's difficult to bring your children up in a certain way, raise them to adulthood, send them out into the world, and yet see them adopt lifestyles that you do not approve of. In King Lear's words, “How sharper than a serpent's tooth it is to have a thankless child."

But on the other hand, we should try to look at this from the younger Rodgers' perspective. He's an adult. He's his own man. He's accomplished a great deal in his life. He's had many men looking up to him for leadership over these many years. To whom much is given, much is expected.

Oh, and this is Olivia Munn we're talking about. Searching for Tweets for this blog, the first one that came up was my own, from nine years ago:

So yes, I think we all need to do our best not to judge a man who carried out a physical relationship with the current Mrs. John Mullaney.

I just feel we should respect other's beliefs in a non-judgmental way. To the extent that we can without betraying our own deeply held convictions, whatever they might be. Also, to try and get along with your family.  And finally, when you're in a committed relationship, to try to give pleasure to your partner as much as they give it to you. A woman like Olivia deserves nothing less.

Take care of these things, and the world will be a much better place for all of us.
