French Olympian Proposes To Her Boyfriend After 3,000 Meter Steeplechase

Sometimes you see a moment on Twitter and think "this is going to get some hot takes." That's exactly what went through my mind when I saw Alice Finot get down on one knee to propose to her BF. Not to brag, I was right. 

I must say, people were not as worked up about this as I thought they would be. Usually, a situation like this would spark a debate as it was a unique, reverse proposal. Maybe everyone just saw that these two were French and just said ahhh okay, makes sense. The French have always been a little bit weird. 

When I did learn that this came after Finot not only didn't win gold, but also didn't medal, my eyebrows were raised. She did set a European steeplechase record? I guess the Europeans aren't good at steeplechase? I thought that would've been a place they'd excel in. I always thought you'd have to "win" to do a post-competition proposal. I put quotations around win because we are talking about the Olympics, and winning equals finishing top 3. However, to Finot, finishing with a European record at the Olympics, hosted by your country, was good enough to qualify as a "win." This isn't a situation like losing to Jacksonville State and then proposing as a FSU player:

Anyways, back to the lovely couple. They have been together for 9 years, which Alice said was the reason she proposed thanks to getting under 9:00 in the steeplechase (also her lucky number).
