Tough Day: Brazilian Swimmer Doesn't Qualify For The Finals, Sent Home For Sneaking Out Of Olympic Village To Hang Out In Paris With Her Boyfriend

[Source] - The 22-year-old was a member of the country's 4X100m freestyle relay team which crashed out of the tournament ahead of the final on 27th July.

But the night before, on 26th July, Vieira and her boyfriend swimmer Gabriel Santos, sneaked out of the Olympic Village to sample Parisian nightlife, according to Brazilian media.

And when the Brazilian Olympic Committee (COB) tried to discipline her, she reportedly abused them and was immediately booked on a flight home.

Santos, who had been eliminated in the heats of the men's 4x100 freestyle, was reprimanded after apologising.

Another day with some drama at the Olympics. This time it comes with the Brazilian swimming team and Brazilian Olympic Committee. Ana Carolina Vieira is dating Gabriel Santos, both swimmers, both Olympians. The story is simple, they wanted to go see the Paris nightlife, snuck out of Olympic Village together, got busted and all hell broke loose. Just your every day Olympic love story I assume.

No doubt it's a bad look to sneak out from Olympic Village the night before you're trying to qualify for the finals. I'd be pissed if I was a teammate and heard the story. But getting booted from the Olympics because you allegedly turned hostile when being disciplined? Just take the punishment, you already are done swimming. Enjoy the vacation, you and your boyfriend both were eliminated so you can enjoy the Paris nightlife whenever you want.

Now there is a twist in the story. Vieira went on her Instagram story and says she was never hostile and it was the other way around. She claims she got sent home without being able to pack up any of her stuff, no real way of getting directly home and plans on taking legal action here. No idea how it plays out, all I know is what happened for now. Again, the hell you doing sneaking out the night before qualifications? Unless you swim better tired and/or hungover (doubtful) you sit your ass on that cardboard bed and wait a day.

Lesson as always - gotta outsmart the people if you're going to sneak out. We all did it growing up. Don't post pictures, don't go somewhere you stick out, gotta get in and out. Have a plan, have a backup plan. Know the route you're taking to sneak out before you do it. Late 90s/early 2000s it was simple, you didn't have cameras and everything to ruin it for you. Just had to make sure the door was unlocked and you picked the right door that made the least amount of noise.
