The Abomination Live-Action Halo Series Has Been Mercifully Cancelled By Paramount

To me, this is a mercy.

This series was one of the worst adaptations I've had the misfortune of watching. It was such a clear example of a showrunner and writers just having no reverence at all for an IP that most of the audience care about. What makes Halo so great can be boiled down to a few simple things. The lore, the action, and the music. The series only managed to figure out the action.

They decided to go their own direction with the lore, turning these superhuman soldiers that have had their emotions removed through augmentation into literal weeping babies obsessed with their feelings and having sex. Instead of Master Chief being a masked warrior, a fundamental part of Halo lore and something which had been proven to work on screen with 'The Mandalorian', into just some regular soldier whose face you see every episode. Instead of the Covenant being a mysterious, supernatural force lead by a coalition of alien races, they're lead by some annoying as fuck human woman. And lastly, instead of focusing on Master Chief, we are forced to follow along a series of horrible new characters such as Kwan, Soren and Laera while characters from the series were watered down as badly as Master Chief himself.

As it is laid down into the grave with other wayward adaptations created by showrunners who didn't care about the IP, I hope it stands out as a lesson to studios. If you're going to adapt a beloved IP, make sure your showrunner cares about it. Not an over-reverence, just general care. Make sure you get a Craig Mazin (The Last of Us), no Kyle Killen and Steven Kane.

P.S. Just to note, I liked a lot of the technical stuff for this show. The people in charge of the production design and fight choreo did a great job and I hope they get a lot of work in sci fi stuff moving forward.
