Gareth Soutgate Is Out As England's Manager, People Already Freaking Out That He's Going To Be The Next USMNT Coach

Not exactly shocking news here that Gareth Southgate is out as England's manager. Even though he made two Euro finals and the quarters of the last World Cup, everyone basically agreed it was time to move on. That's life as a national team coach. You typically get one cycle, maybe two and then move on to whatever is next.

Now part of me enjoyed seeing Southgate at England because they never won. Much like the Cowboys, England hasn't won shit in decades and still acts like they are the number 1 franchise out there. But even though results were mostly there, it felt like a bit of luck. They won in PKs. They never looked the part. They struggled to create. I say all that because people are already freaking out that he's going to be hired by the USA. These are far from the few examples:

Yep, that's part of the whole Matt Crocker fear. Even though Southgate would be the most accomplished USMNT coach in its history or the fact that hey, we finally went outside the MLS circle. People don't want to watch British Berhalter. I get it. But also people are going to freak out if it's Steve Cherundolo. Again, this is why I wanted Crocker gone and frankly Cindy Cone too. You need fresh faces all throughout the federation to come in and figure out the most important hire in US men's soccer history. That's not hyperbole, with the World Cup here in 2 years and this group of players we have, you need someone to take the next step. That's not just get out of the group. That's not just be better than Mexico.

Now we wait and see. I assume it'll be pretty quick if there's interest on both sides. If this is who Crocker was waiting for he's not going to delay the hire.
