Harrison Butker Roasting Season Has Officially Began. The ESPYs Lit Him Up Pretty Good Last Night Via Venus & Serena Williams, While He Was In The Audience. (And They Threw In A Shot At Caitlin Clark Because Of Course They Did)
And we’re off…
I figured Butker would have at least until training camp until the cancel culture mob kicked it into high gear and came for his head, but leave it to the ESPYs - the same award show presenting the artist formerly known as Prince Harry, with the once treasured Pat Tillman Award, to get the ball rolling.
If you’re not convinced by now that sports are more about entertainment than about athletics, than I don’t know what to tell you.
The leagues are all in bed with ESPN - (who lies btw), and ESPN’s bread and butter is controversy. It’s the only thing that keeps people tuning in to the garbage products they peddle around the clock- hot takes, and shit like this.
(Sidebar- instead of saying white people are crazy about her like they were Larry Legend, she could have just as easily said the inverse- that it drives black players insane that she’s regarded as “great”, just like it did with Larry. See Isiah, Rodman, even fellow white Bill Lambeir. But I digress.)
Never forget, nobody tears women down like other, jealous, women. Nobody.
It’s sad that like pretty much every other American television network, ESPN once started out as a facts based, sports news reporting network. But like everything else, it’s devolved into talking heads vying for who can say the craziest shit in hopes of drumming up the most retweets and comments on social media. (Yes I fully understand the irony of realizing this and then going ahead and blogging it).
My big question with all of this tonight is what the fuck did Harrison Butker expect was going to happen tonight when he received that invite from ESPN?
Did he seriously think they were inviting him straight up? No strings attached?
They don’t invite kickers to the fuckin ESPYs.
If he did believe that, he’s a bigger idiot than the females, and men with daughters who defended what he said in that speech.

They set him up like one of those bulls in Spain that they drug up, the stick all the spears in before parading the matador out into the ring to finish him off.
But as for Butker, he better strap in, because once camps begin, and he starts turning around at his locker only to be confronted with an array of microphones, he’s fucked. And believe it’s coming. The woke police want their pound of flesh and you better believe they’ll get it.
P.s.- remember that first year or two of the ESPYs when they were actually pretty awesome? ESPN had the juice there for a while between releasing the editions of “Jock Jams” cds, ESPN The Magazine, and their ESPYs. But like Icarus, they flew too close to the sun.
P.p.s.- the Williams sisters are such dorks. Greatest female tennis players of all time, but huge dorks. Of course ESPN had the idea to have them host this annual train wreck.
P.p.p.s.-
1st off, as a fellow Catholic, I respect how proud he is of his faith and Church. I respect even more his criticism of it, and bishops, and priests, and dioceses on a large scale and on a large stage. That takes courage.
2nd, I shouldn't have called him an f'n idiot. Even though I don't understand why he went out of his way to interject the part everybody is riled up over. The rest of his speech had nothing to do with it. It was a sharp left turn and out of place. Speak for youself as a man. Not for, and to women, about their hopes and dreams, outside the professional world. Even if it really is what his wife believes. Just bizarre. As a man with two incredibly successful and beautiful sisters, if I ever heard one of their husbands say "their life didn't begin until they married him and had his baby" I would throw up in my mouth. If I had a daughter whose husband said that he'd be in a trunk. But it's his opinion and he's entitled to it. So respect even if I disagree, and I applaud most of what else he said. Especially given the context of this being at a Catholic University.
3rd, I will never understand why people who profess and practice Christianity the most, and seek to emulate Jesus, like Butker, are always so anti-homosexual. Jesus' #1 teaching, THE GOLDEN RULE, is to love everybody. No matter what.
Who cares what other people do as long as it doesn't bother or affect you?
4th, I think the outrage and condemnation he's facing is ridiculous and way overboard. It's completely OK to have an opinion others don't agree with. People who share them shouldn't be shouted down, canceled, blackballed, or boycotted. Debate and civil discourse is how we all learn and change minds.
