15-Year Old Miles Russell Is On The Verge Of Making The Cut At A PGA Tour Event

This literal kid's name is Miles Russell. Miles is already the youngest ever winner of both the Junior PGA Championship, and the Junior Players. He's youngest player ever to make the cut at a Korn Ferry Tour event. And now he's playing in the Rocket Mortgage Open at 15-years old against names like Rickie Fowler, Zach Johnson, Matt Kuchar... and is currently beating the pants off of 2019 U.S. Open winner Gary Woodland.

Must be pretty nice to have life all but figured out by the age of 15. By 8th grade he was already going to school online to focus on golf. I don't know how it's physically possible for a kid 5-foot-7, 120 pounds to compete on this level. You'd think the amount of distance he gives up on the tee would make it impossible for him to keep pace. Which makes you think everything else about his game has to be head and shoulders above a whole lot of PGA Tour players already. Russell finished +2 in his first round, but is 3-under today and right on the verge of the cut line coming into his final few holes.

Good for you Miles. When I was golfing at 15-years old I was lucky to finish a round without throwing a temper tantrum. Pretty sure I was still riding my bike to the course and working as a junior caddy in exchange for a free 9-holes per day at the Bowling Green Country Club. And just starting to learn the best places on the course to smoke a bowl without getting caught. Would be awesome if he could find a birdie or two here on the back to make the cut so we could watch him play for real this weekend. And then on Sunday we can all talk about how many thousands of dollars you could have made if only you weren't an amateur.
