Joe Mazzulla Casually Dropping That He Was Coaching On A Torn Meniscus Is The Most Psycho Joe Move Of All Time

Of all the people to be happy for as a result of the Celts 18th championship, pretty high on that list for me is none other than Joe Mazzulla. Think about what the last two years of his life has been like. Thrown into the first just days ahead of training camp because the previous head coach was a horny weirdo who couldn't keep his dick in his pants at work, it certainly didn't help that nobody really knew who he was and almost immediately, everyone doubted him.

It didn't matter that the team didn't miss a beat under his reign, after every single loss all you heard about was how Joe was a terrible coach, Joe should be fired, blah blah blah. When they fell a game short of making back to back Finals, that noise became even louder.

This year it was pretty much the same. Now with the pressure even higher because of the offseason moves, every decision Joe made was doubted, every quote dissected in a way to try and make it seem like Joe wasn't the guy. Despite the historic results on the court, people still refused to believe in Joe Mazzulla and Mazzulla Ball.

Well, those days are officially over. Forever. Not only has Joe Mazzulla proven to be the guy, he may very well be the next great coach in league history. I'll remind you, Mazzulla is now 121-43 in the regular season and 27-12 in the postseason with a title to his name as head coach of the Boston Celtics. Seems pretty good!

But that's not the only reason I believe this. There's also this to consider

I'm sorry, but this is the most Joe Mazzula thing perhaps of all time. Of course, this basketball psycho was coaching the last 3 months with a torn meniscus. While knee injuries take out players and coaches (see: Chris Finch), with Joe it clearly made him stronger. There is no doubt in my mind that Joe not only loved the fact that he had a torn meniscus and all the pain that came with it, he was probably pissed he didn't have two torn meniscus (?). This is the same man who talked about how much he loved getting blown out in Game 4, so does it surprise anyone that Joe was going through this entire run with a shredded knee? I don't think we heard a peep about it until last night, but I think it actually makes me love Joe more?

Like this dude was so locked in he couldn't even allow his body to acknowledge that it was broken. Not until the job was finished and the banner was secured. It's one thing to preach toughness and focus to your team and have it just be words. But when you walk the walk at the same time? No wonder the Celts went 7-2 after those Atlanta games and then 16-3 in the postseason on their way to the title (I cannot stop typing this. I will not stop typing this). They were being led by an absolute madman who also happens to be a basketball genius. I'm not sure there's a better coaching combination in the league right now when you stop and think about it.

In the end, Brad was right about Joe. The team stuck by him, they didn't overreact like the media begged them to and now look. They are champions and are led by a guy who is younger than Al Horford. I dunno about anyone else, but I'm ready to make sure Joe has this job for life. He's earned it.
