A Draft Comparison After Seeing The Running Portion At The NBA Combine: Zach Edey And Cousin Mose

Look I'm not going to hate on Zach Edey here like the rest of the internet is. My official stance is that there's not a 7 foot 4 man on Earth that looks smooth while running. In fact, I don't even think it looks that bad. Looks to me like the 7 foot 4 man can move pretty well?

....although I will admit that his arms swinging and rest of his body staying still does have an eery similarity to Cousin Mose running alongside Jim and Pam at Schrute Farms.

Giphy Images.

Now let's see Cousin Mose go for 37 and 10 in the National Championship against Connecticut. Or be the 2x defending Player of the Year in college. Point being, I get it was a funny running motion, but I don't get the hate coming out of the NBA Combine today from Edey's workout?

Does posting mean things about Zach Edey generate more clicks? Is that where this is coming from? Because I understand the hate of the fouls called against him in college, but he personally has done absolutely nothing get this much hate personally? I don't know guys, as there's people who are paid a whole lot more money than me to make these decisions, but I wouldn't hate it if my professional basketball team got a 7 foot 4 player with skills at the end of the 1st, beginning of the 2nd round. Should he go 1st overall? No, obviously not. But someone's about to reach for Bronny James Jr. way too early because of his name. Why is it so bad to go get Edey because of his height....?

Or maybe for his off the dribble shooting!

Is it possible that Purdue was using Edey wrong by sticking him on the block? Put the ball in this guy's hands outside the 3 point line and let him cook.

Man, I wish Zach Edey was using his Covid year to come back to Purdue next season. For whatever reason, he became the biggest villain in the entire sport these last two seasons. And he would be the most recognizable player this sport has seen in a decade if he came back for one more year. I say he reads all the press clippings from his combine workout today, see what he could get in NIL money, and come back to torment college basketball fans one more time next season.
