Overall, The Fashions At The Met Gala This Year Were Supremely Underwhelming

Fashion's biggest night, The Met Gala comes around every year and I'm always over the moon to smoke weed on my couch and hyper-analyze the appearance of famous people I don't know. It's every fashion girl's favorite past time. What's even better about this carpet in particular, is the fact that it's literally just that - a red carpet, and that's it. No awards, nothing. We see the looks, and then they all go off to have a chic rich people dinner inside The Met and watch a performance by another celeb. This year, it was Ariana Grande and she crushed it with a medley, starting out with "Once Upon A Dream" from Sleeping Beauty:

FUN! COOL! EXCITING! Unfortunately, the rest of the Met was....a little boring. All of the pieces were there - the theme, "The Garden of Time," opened the door to years and years of potential inspiration from the archives. The theme itself would have us assuming that we'd see a lot of florals (for spring? groundbreaking) and a lot of "older" looks - never worn couture, things that fall under a "medieval" category...basically, if you dressed like an Aristocrat, you were on theme.

Somehow, the majority of our party-goers fell flat. They aren't really the ones to blame, though - these celebs are serving as canvases for the designers who dress them. Half the time they don't have much of a say in what they are wearing, and if they do, it's very much a collaborative effort. None of the celebs I'm about to list did any of these looks without a team of people behind them who, despite some of them totally flopping, worked really hard. Now, keep that in mind while I sit in my ivory tower and judge them down to the last threads!

BEST DRESSED

Everyone I'm about to list went above and beyond. Whether their outfit was extremely on the mark when it comes to the theme, they stepped out of their comfort zone, or just looked hot enough to forgive the fact that their look wasn't the best of the bunch, they deserve to be on it.

BORING AND LAZY

BOOOOOO. Safe, lame, barely on theme, putting us all to sleep. A lot of the people on here I love, but this is FASHION'S BIGGEST NIGHT! Sure, they look good, but we're looking for GRAND. These people missed the mark.

WORST DRESSED

May god have mercy on your soul. Either the look had nothing to do with the theme, had a stupid story behind it, or just flat out looked ugly - not everyone can have an A+ night at the Met!

GOOD EFFORT, BUT NO

I will never knock someone for trying, especially on a stage like this. Sometimes, you miss the mark, but I don't want that to be a message for anyone to GIVE UP! Trying is way better than not trying, especially when it comes to the Met Gala. Points for participation, come back next year and try again.

Be sure to catch up on our latest episode of Taylor Watch where we break down all of the looks in depth, and shed tears over the fact that Taylor is already in Paris.

UNTIL NEXT YEAR!!!
