The Pathetic Marlins Continue To Be An Awful Franchise And Trade Luis Arraez To The Padres

The Marlins are a fucking joke. We all already know this. Oh, they'll surprise you from time to time like when they snuck into the playoffs last year. But they have been a total embarrassment to the MLB for the great majority of their franchise. Even their greatest moments like winning the 1997 World Series are just a reminder that they began tearing that team apart just 16 days later when they traded away Moises Alou to begin that rebuild.

Now, they are staring at the 32,093rd rebuild in Marlins history. To be fair, I may be off by a couple thousand.

Most teams would build around a 27 year old infielder coming off his 2nd straight batting title. Not the Marlins. But we can't be surprised. Here's some players the Marlins have traded away:

25 year old Miguel Cabrera

28 year old Giancarlo Stanton

26 year old Christian Yelich

22 year old Edgar Renteria

26 year old Josh Beckett

28 year old Hanley Ramirez

None of these young players were traded to make a good team better. Like Arraez, they were dealt away to start yet another rebuild. How can this team expect anyone to care about this team? The second a young player becomes good, they are dealt away for younger player. Rinse, wash, repeat.

Ricky Nolasco is the all-time leader in wins for the Marlins franchise because they don't keep anyone around long enough to accumulate any longevity with this team. It's like rooting for a college team that is playing in an NCAA where the other teams never have players graduate.

I don't even know who to blame anymore. All of their owners have sucked. They had a great GM in Kim Ng last year but they forced her out because she didn't want to sit through this embarrassing tear down. Good for her. At least someone at the executive level had some fucking pride.

For this and another year of Arraez control, the Padres had to give up an odd mix of prospects including their 1st round pick from last year in Dillon Head. He's a nice enough prospect but he's also 19 and in Single-A. He won't help the major league team until roughly 2027. Of course, he'll probably get traded in 2030 so why should anyone in Miami give a shit?

Baseball hasn't worked in Miami. I have no idea if it ever would have but I also know it never truly got a fair shake. Every single owner they have had has sucked. John Henry might have been an exception but he couldn't get rid of that team and get to Boston quick enough.

Yes, they've won two World Series but that was in maybe the worst stadium in baseball at that time. That last title was also over 20 years ago. They have a great stadium now but no one is leaving the beach to watch a bunch of players that the ownership only looks at as people they can trade for younger players. It's never about the now. It's always about three years away.

If you are someone who lives in South Florida who loves baseball, I genuinely feel badly for you. You deserve better. This team is the sports equivalent of a toxic relationship. They are never going to change and you deserve better. Find a new team to root for. Fuck this team.

The Marlins don't care. Why should you?
