The WWE/UFC Merger Rolls On! NXT Will Host A PPV At The UFC Apex In June
The TKO merger between WWE and UFC rolls on! Soon you're not gonna know the difference between a steel cage match and regular ol UFC bout!
NXT (the WWE's third brand, basically a feeder system) has announced that their next Battleground PPV (now called "Premium Live Events" or PLEs) will go down at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada.
This has been rumored for a few weeks now, and I even asked Dana White about it last week at Power Slap….
….but it's still pretty wild to see it confirmed, through a Triple H tweet praising the state-of-the-art UFC Apex.
Here's a quick tour of the Apex if you've never seen it….
It's improved a ton since then, actually, and they've added the capability to put on live shows (like Fight Night, Power Slap, or an NXT Battleground) so this should be pretty sweet. I wonder if Dana White will be curious enough to attend! He's obviously not a big wrestling guy per say, but he went to WrestleMania in New Orleans a few years back for Ronda Rousey's debut, and I could see him being interested on a broadcasting level alone. Imagine him getting involved in the action a little?! Throwing a Power Slap someone's way from the front row?!
I'd say the Big Goof would never agree to something so silly, but he's done a few things lately (like the skit on Howie Mandell's podcast) that feel out of his comfort zone as well, so who knows. Even a brawl that led into his Apex office would be funny, like Daniel Bryan and AJ Styles fighting into Vince's office a few years back….
On a real note, I've been told to expect more and more crossover between the WWE and the UFC; a few wrestlers have even given MMA gyms a shot recently! Imagine the crossover of a WWE superstar fighting in the UFC and keeping kayfabe? I'd be in heaven.
