Don't Get Your Hopes Up For A Conor McGregor Return Announcement At UFC 300 Tonight

I'll be honest - that headline is probably more for me than anyone else. I know a lot of you are probably thinkin, "I didn't get my hopes up about Conor - that guy is never fighting again!"

You'd be incorrect in saying that - because he's gonna fight 8 times in the next 12 months - but that's not the point of this blog. Unfortunately, the point of this blog is to post Dana White's comments to me at Power Slap 7 last night....

I opened up with a question about the Power Slap broadcast, which Dana has fallen in love with recently. Then I asked about the rumblings of the WWE running an NXT event at the UFC Apex, and his answer seemed to say "where there's smoke, there's fire" to me.

Finally, I asked if we could expect any surprises at UFC 300 tomorrow - and while Dana said he knew was I was really asking, no.

“Umm no I don’t think there’s any surprises. I know what you’re talking about and it’s all internet bullshit. I can honestly sit here right now and tell you we do not have a deal done for the Conor fight. I know there’s lots of rumblings, people expect the fucking place to go black and some big announcement. They’re expecting them to walk out. It’s all internet bullshit. Like NBC News.”

Well fuck. I was kinda expecting the place to go black and some big announcement. Expecting them to walk out or something. I thought that would be the biggest/most badass way you could possibly announce this fight; Conor's return (and at this point Michael Chandler's return) on International Fight Week. Is there a chance he's just kayfabing us just to keep the surprise? I suppose so, but Dana White just doesn't seem like that kinda guy to me. Not about this.

Maybe they didn't have a deal done last night but they'll finalize it this morning meaning he wasn't lying last night but a McGrgeor return announcement could still happen?! Or am I just grasping at straws now?! I should probably listen to the advice in my headline.

Again - if you're craving more UFC 300 content, here's our card breakdown….
