Coach Of The People: UConn Wins The Big East Title, Dan Hurley Immediately Shows Up At Ted's Bar To Celebrate With Students And Fans
I don't care who you are, how many titles or whatever titles you win, this is the only move you should have as a head coach. You show up to a campus bar and celebrate with the students. Sure we've seen it before for random things. Travis Steele used to show up to Dana's at Xavier and drop a couple grand for people to drink after they beat Cincinnati.
This is one of the major parts everyone missed in this whole pointless, stupid court storming debate. It's students. This is why college sports isn't comparable to pro sports. These are people who might attend a class or two with the players, they see them on campus, they seem them at the bars. Fuck all the old people who just drop a ton of money (seriously, keep doing that though) to sit close and get pissed at celebrations. You go right to the bar and celebrate.
Oh and don't tell me 'Big East regular season' doesn't matter.
He gave an interview after the game talking about how outside of a national title it's the most special thing to win. I think there's a valid argument since the Big East is the only major conference to play a legit double round-robin. You don't get to scream about scheduling and only playing teams once. It's as true of a title as we see in the regular season.
But again, this is about the move to go to the bar. Should have brought the net. For sure should pay for a round or two. Shit, his son even scored today on Senior Night! Hurley might be happier than the national title. Either way, I love everything about the move.
