When I opened Twitter this morning I had no idea what to expect. I thought it was going to be more of the same - people fighting about politics, uninformed opinions, a cesspool of "reply guys" trying to "ratio" a tweet they "disagree" with. But no. TL/DR, American tourist in the 1800s learned about tipping from Europe and brought it back to the United States so they didn't feel poor. Now every time I go to Chipotle the cashier flips the screen around like I owe them extra money for doing a terrible job wrapping my burrito. And I'm not one of these people who is anti-tipping, but I'm also not going to suck off the service industry no matter the level of service they provide. It's the only industry in the world where someone can be flat out rude to you and the customer will still make an excuse for them. "Oh they must've had a rough day." Bitch I HAD A ROUGH DAY. Put a smile on your fucking face and do you job. If I sound annoyed it's because I am.
Tipping has gotten out of control to the point where people think they have to tip on everything. Picking up a coffee? Tip. Picking up your laundry? Tip. Purposefully walking to get your food to avoid the delivery fee? Don't forget to tip! I bought a plant at the plant store yesterday and the guy flipped the screen around for me to tip. It seem like no matter what you buy nowadays you're add 20% to the bill. Maybe Ndamukong Suh is the only guy that can fix that. I don't know.
