If We Can't Have Joke License Plates, What Are We Even Doing?

UPI News - Officials in British Columbia revealed their list of personalized license plate applications that were rejected for reasons including abusive or sexually suggestive language.

The Insurance Corporation of British Columbia, which is responsible for issuing license plates, said about 9,500 vanity plate applications were received in 2023, and about 2,600 of those were rejected for various reasons.

The plates rejected for being "abusive, obscene or derogatory" include "TURD," "SOMPIG," "STR8-WM" and multiple variations of "IDGAF."

Plates barred for being "sexually suggestive" or having "inappropriate connotations" include "BOINK," "HOGASM," "HUSTLR," "LZY BUT" and multiple plates ending with the numbers "69."

I couldn't hate this move more by The British Columbia. Could not hate this more. Now granted, the guys who ride around with license plates like this likely think they are the funniest humans on the planet and are the same guys who plate softball and flag football with #69 on the jersey, and worse think they are the first people to ever think of that. However, in their defense I would be lying if I don't giggle at the ASSMAN license plate or anytime people drop a fake name like HEYWOODJABLOWME, or if any of the Jerky Boys clips still don't hit.

On the other hand, we're talking about joke license plates for pete's sake. Granted, this kind of humor isn't the most original out there, but it's necessary. The internet and the world can be a toxic, horrific place. You know what isn't ... fart jokes, fake names and phony license plates. That is what without a shadow of a doubt will always put a smile on your face. Let's also think about all the stress on the roads. Traffic, lights, idiots cutting you off, if you don't think you need a few smiles on the road seeing a "TURD" license plate 98 Honda Civic driving past you, or a fat guy in a Chevy Pick Up with "BOINK" on the back would lighten the mood you are crazy. I also think you can make a case it would lighten the mood of everyone in traffic and cause less road rage across the world.

I'm baffled by this decision by the British Columbia and it wouldn't shock me if this muzzling of jokes, as well as free speech I might add, leads to more stress, more road rage, and hell even a full blown war on a highway at this point. You take away laughing who knows what they will take away next.
