We Were At Ford Field As The Lions Got Their Souls Ripped Out By The 49ers

Congratulations, Detroit; you can now have the opportunity to relive the worst loss ever. Yeah, I obviously didn't have any control over the game, but I would've been much happier if this Vlog would've had a happy ending. I would've liked to have gotten more interviews after the game, but it's hard to ask people to talk about an event in which people just got their hearts ripped out. Until the Lions win the Super Bowl, this will be the devastating game that all other heartbreaking losses are compared to. Every time a Detroit team loses the tough one, it'll be followed up with somebody saying, "Yeah, but at least they didn't blow a 17-point line in the NFC championship game." It's not a game many people will want to relive, but I'm still proud of what we put together.

If there's any good that came out of this on a personal level, it's unique to have all of this documented. I felt the same way about Michigan winning the national championship, though that had a much more positive result. I have to say I was a bit surprised by how optimistic Lions fans were after the game. It's a juxtaposition compared to my reading on social media. Based on what you're seeing on Twitter and Facebook, the Lions should just give up and not even play next season because this was their best shot, and they'll never have another one quite like it. I don't share that belief. I think this team is set up pretty well for the future. I'm not going to guarantee a Super Bowl, but I think they're in a better place than they've ever been as an organization; I guess that's not really saying much.

I'm going to give myself a little bit of credit here. For a guy infamous for being awkward, I think we're doing better with the man-on-the-street stuff. It doesn't hurt that the fans in Detroit are awesome and wholesome and wonderful in all the best ways. It makes my job easier. As sad as I am that they lost, I'm more disappointed that the journey came to an end. This last month of football has been a magic carpet ride; it's just a shame that the clock struck midnight on the Lions' incredible run. Baseball is coming up soon. You know where my heart is, but we might get a little bit of Red Wings hockey content soon. Keep your eyes open.
