Sunday Morning NYC Facts

I have been doing these New York City facts weekly on social media over the past year. I love the city and learning about it so these have been really fun to do. If you lost money on the Texans yesterday, hopefully this blog can be a nice distraction until the games start today.

I always wonder if people will jump in while I do these especially if my back is to them. This guy was nice enough but doing this in Times Square is always bizarre. Doing this one below ended up being a nightmare because I picked a stupid time to shoot it. Quick warning below…I am screaming because I'm an idiot who doesn't trust his mic.

I taped this on December 30th and they were celebrating Chinese New Year. It's always busy in Times Square so I didn't think that would be an issue. What I didn't know is they would use all the speakers they had for New Year's Eve to play very loud music. So, I had to wait for the rare moments when things were quiet to fit this in. I must have tried at least 7 or 8 times. 

I'm also in front of the set up for Dick Clark's Rockin' Eve so it looks like no one is there until people walk in front of the camera. I'm grateful they did so my screaming looks a little less insane.

Before looking this up, I had no idea that over a billion people used the NYC subway way back in 1920. Obviously, it's been a major city long before that but that's before the Empire State Building and the subway was relatively new at that time.

I love the Ed Sullivan Theater so much. I am a big David Letterman fan and got to see him do one of his shows here about a decade ago. I also love the Beatles and am fascinated with how they were introduced to American audiences right there. I didn't know this is also where Cary Grant got his start.

Hopefully that was a nice way to waste some time while you run errands today before the games start.
